Enactus-Belize Trip 2018
This project will help cover travel costs for nine students, who are members of the Enactus Global Scholars of Belize group, travel to Belize in March of 2018 to study social entrepreneurship in action. We are partnering with Boise State University's social entrepreneurship group to assist elementary schools, farmers, and communities in Belize with health, education, and construction management projects.
“Preserving our heritage, creating our future.” –Ocean Academy Motto
While in Belize, we will be conducting research at the Ocean Academy of Caye Caulker in Belize. The Ocean Academy is a real-world example of social enterprise that encompasses technology, innovation, sustainable development, and education as frameworks for their business. The academy provides outdoor recreation services and uses the profits to help teach local students valuable technology skills such as coding, special effects, working with drones, and more. Working in collaboration with the organization, we hope to gain further insight on what it means for a business to be socially responsible.
[Please note that a change has been made regarding our non-profit partner but our project objectives have remained the same. Please see the updates tab for more info.]
Our chapter of Enactus is part of an international community of students, academics, and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives. One of Enactus’ beliefs is that the formal classroom education should be paired with real-world opportunities to put theory and practice into action. As preparation for this trip, we have studied the field of social entrepreneurship and developed our own ideas of what it has to offer to both businesses and their communities. We have also studied and worked remotely with Ocean Academy to learn more about their work. This trip is our chance to put this belief into action and make a difference.
Thanks to generous donations from several donors, there is a $1500 match for donations to this campaign. That means every gift up to the first $1500 has double the impact! [Update: The match has been achieved!]
Please consider donating to help us pursue this amazing opportunity to make a difference!
All funds raised by this project will go to The College of Idaho’s Business and Accounting Department and be used to help fund student travel for the March 2018 Enactus trip to Belize.
